The Mongrel Marathon acknowledges the Gadigal and Wangal people of the Eora Nation as the traditional custodians of the land on which the marathon will be run.
The territory of the Gadigal people stretched along the southern side of Port Jackson from South Head to around what is now known as Petersham. Their southern boundary is unclear.
In the 1700s the Wangal clan lived and were custodians of the area now known as Strathfield.
